Sunrisers Hyderabad beat Punjab Kings by 4 wickets in the first match of the Sunday double-header on May 19. This win pushed SRH to the second place in the IPL 2024 points table with 17 points. Punjab Kings are in the second-last place of the table. The second place of SRH is not yet confirmed. Rajasthan Royals could reach the second place if they beat KKR in their last match, in that case, SRH will end up in the third place.
Punjab opted to bat first after winning the toss at the Rajiv Gandhi International Cricket Stadium. They scored 214 runs in the first innings losing 5 wickets. Prabhsimran Singh played very well and scored a half-century for Punjab. He scored 71 runs on 45 balls. Riley Rousseau scored 49 runs and Atharva Tayde scored 46 runs. T Natarajan got 2 wickets for SRH. Pat Cummins and Vijayakanth got 1 wicket each. Shashank Singh was run out.
In reply, Hyderabad chased the target in 19.1 overs after losing 6 wickets. Abhishek Sharma scored a brilliant half-century. He played an inning of 66 runs in just 28 balls. Apart from him, Rahul Tripathi scored 33 runs, Nitish Reddy 37 runs and Heinrich Klaasen scored 42 runs. Harshal Patel and Arshdeep Singh picked up 2 wickets each for Punjab Kings. Shashank Singh and Harpreet Brar got 1 wicket each. Abhishek Sharma was awarded player of the match.
