Sunrisers Hyderabad beat Rajasthan Royals to reach IPL Finals

In a gripping Qualifier-2 of IPL 2024, Sunrisers Hyderabad defeated Rajasthan Royals by 36 runs, securing their place in the final. The match, played at Chennai’s Chepauk Stadium, saw Rajasthan opting to field first after winning the toss. Hyderabad set a challenging target of 175 runs over their 20-over innings, while Rajasthan fell short, managing only 139 runs for 7 wickets in their 20 overs. Kolkata Knight Riders have already reached the finals. They will play against SRH in the final match on Sunday 26th May.

Dhruv Jurel was the standout performer for Rajasthan. He scored the only half-century of the match. However, a concerning moment occurred when Jurel was struck by a bouncer on his neck, causing him to collapse on the pitch. But he recovered soon. In the bowling department, Sandeep Sharma delivered a crucial blow by bowling Heinrich Klaasen, and Abhishek Sharma’s dual contribution of 2 wickets and a remarkable running catch of Rovman Powell were pivotal moments for Hyderabad.

Key Moments of Qualifier-2:

  • Samson’s Missed Stumping: Sanju Samson missed a golden opportunity to stump Travis Head. In the fourth over, Rahul Tripathi stepped out to R Ashwin’s delivery but missed, and so did wicketkeeper Samson, allowing the batsmen to steal a run. Samson’s subsequent fumble also cost a potential runout, with Tripathi then on 26 runs. Tripathi’s innings ended at 37 runs in the following over.
  • Sandeep Sharma’s Yorker: Sandeep Sharma executed a perfect slower yorker to dismiss Heinrich Klaasen in the 19th over. Klaasen, who had scored a swift 50 off 34 balls, was deceived by the delivery, which crashed into his leg stump.
  • Avesh Khan’s Double Strike: Avesh Khan made a significant impact with two wickets in consecutive deliveries during the 14th over. He first dismissed Nitish Kumar Reddy, who was caught attempting a reverse sweep, and then bowled Abdul Samad with the very next ball.
  • Markram’s No-Ball Incident: Aiden Markram experienced an unusual moment when he accidentally let the ball slip from his hand, directing it towards short fine-leg instead of the intended third man. The umpire, Nitin Menon, declared it a no-ball, requiring Markram to re-bowl.
