The Gabba Thriller: West Indies clinch victory from the jaws of defeat against Australia

West Indies pulled off an unbelievable victory against Australia in the second Test match at Gabba. Windies defied all odds and won the match by 8 runs stunning the cricket world. They were able to draw the two match Test series 1-1. West Indies won a match at Gabba after 27 years.

The West Indies in their first innings lost wickets in quick succession. However, a gritty 79 from Joshua Da Silva and a crucial fifty from Jermaine Blackwood provided some much-needed resistance. Eventually Windies were able to reach a total of 311. Australia in their first innings fell shortly behind the West Indies and put up a score of 289. Usman Khwaja contributed 75 runs to the team’s total. Alzarri Joseph ripped through the Australian middle order and took career-best four wickets.

West Indies started their second innings with a tiny lead of 22 runs. They weren’t able to repeat the batting performance of their previous innings and could only manage to score 193 runs. Pat Cummins and Lyon took 3 wickets each.

The tide turns: Australia, chasing an easy target of 215, looked poised to finish the match off quickly.Steven Smith was batting brilliantly and scored unbeaten 91 runs. Then came the hero of the match Shamar Joseph. Joseph destroyed the Australian batting lineup and took 7 wickets. He single handedly brought the Windies back in the match. Australia were all out on 207 runs, just 8 runs behind the target. Shamar Joseph was named the Player of the match and the Player of the series.

Gabba Test will be remembered for ages. This victory was one of the best things to happen to the West Indies cricket in recent times. Shamar Joseph has became a star overnight.
