Australia defeated the West Indies by 11 runs in the first T20 match of the series in Hobart. They now have a 1-0 lead in the series. Australia batted first and set a target of 214 runs. West Indies scored 202 runs for 8 wickets in 20 overs. Opener David Warner scored a half-century for Australia. Josh Inglis and Tim David also contributed to the team’s victory. Andre Russell took three wickets for the West Indies.
Australia scored 213 runs, losing 4 wickets in 20 overs. West Indies started well with Brandon King’s fifty but they couldn’t chase the target. King scored 53 runs off 37 balls, while Vala Charles scored 42 runs off 25 balls. Jason Holder scored an unbeaten 34 runs. Australian bowlers Adam Zampa took three wickets, Marcus Stoinis picked up two wickets. Shaun Abbott, Glenn Maxwell, and Jason Behrendorff each took one wicket.
Warner became the first player from Australia to play 100 matches in all three formats, becoming the third player in the world. He also became the third player from Australia to play the 100th match in T20, following former captain Aaron Finch and star all-rounder Glenn Maxwell. It was Warner’s first appearance after his announcement of retirement from Test cricket.
