West Indies won the third and final match of the three-match T20 series against Australia by 37 runs. However, Australia became the winner of the series by 2–1. Andre Russell’s explosive knock of 71 runs off 29 helped West Indies get this consolatory victory in the last clash. Australia had started the series with the victory by 11 runs in the 1st T20.
West Indies batted first after winning the toss. But soon they lost early wickets against the Australian bowling attack. They had lost 5 wickets on the score of 79 runs. Australia was dominating the game at that point.
Then came the partnership between Andre Russell and Sherfane Rutherford. They both unleashed carnage on the Aussies bowlers. Both batters scored their fifties for the West Indies. They made a record partnership of 139 runs on 67 balls for the sixth wicket. It is the biggest partnership for the sixth wicket in the history of T20I. Russell The Muscle was the highest scorer for the Windies. He made 71 runs on just 29 balls and hit 7 sixes. Rutherford scored an unbeaten 67 runs off 40 balls. This pushed the West Indies score to 220 runs for 6 wickets.
In response, Australia chasing the big target of 221 could only reach 183 runs for 5 wickets in 20 overs. David Warner hit a half-century and scored 81 runs on 49 balls. Tim David contributed an unbeaten 41 runs on 19 balls at the end. Roston Chase and Romario Shepherd picked up 2 wickets each for West Indies.
Andre Russel became the Player Of The Match while David Warner won the Player Of The Series award.
