Chennai Super Kings (CSK) defeated Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) by 6 wickets in the opener match of IPL 2024. CSK has started their 2024 IPL campaign with a victory under new captain Ruturaj Gaikwad. CSK has won the IPL trophy 5 times and hopes to make this count to 6 this year.
The first match of IPL 2024 started at Chepauk Stadium in Chennai on Friday night. RCB opted to bat first after winning the toss. RCB had a good start then lost a few wickets quickly. Faf du Plessis batted well and scored 35 runs off 23 balls. Ex-skipper Virat Kohli scored only 21 runs on 20 balls. Youngster Anuj Rawat played brilliantly and scored a quick 48 runs. He was the highest scorer. Mustafizur Rahman bowled well and picked up 4 wickets for CSK.

CSK had an explosive start to their chase of 174 runs. Opener Rachin Ravindra scored 37 runs off 15 balls in his debut match. CSK scored 62 runs on 1 wicket in the powerplay. Shivam Dubey and Ravindra Jadeja had an unbeaten partnership of 66 runs. They helped CSK reach the target with 8 balls remaining. Cameron Green got 2 wickets for RCB. Mustafizur Rahman became the Player Of the Match for his 4 wickets.
