Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) started their IPL 2024 with a thrilling victory. They defeated Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) by 4 runs in their first match of IPL 2024. The result came in the last over of the match and victory could go anywhere. The momentum kept swinging between the teams but KKR came on top ultimately. Eden Gardens witnessed explosive batting from Andre Russell and Heinrich Klaasen. Andre Russell was the hero for KKR’s victory.
The match started with KKR batting first. They lost some early wickets but Phil Salt played aggressively and scored 54 runs. Ramandeep Singh contributed a quick 34 runs. Then came Andre Russell and it was the Russell Show after that. He smashed the ball all over the ground at Eden Gardens. He scored 64 runs off 25 balls with the help of 7 sixes and 3 fours. This pushed KKR’s score to 208. Rinku Singh scored 23 runs off 15 balls. T Natrajan got 3 wickets for SRH.
SRH started their chase well with Mayank Agarwal and Abhishek Sharma making a partnership of 60 runs for the opening pair. They scored 32 runs each. SRH’s innings were going smoothly but then Sunil Narine and other KKR spinners took some wickets and slowed down their current run rate. When it looked like the match was in favor of KKR, Klassen started batting fiercely. He smashed 8 sixes to score a total of 63 runs in just 29 balls. He brought the game closer to the victory for SRH. But Harshit Rana in his last over got Klassen out. He defended 13 runs in the last over and clinched the match for KKR. Harshit got 3 important wickets. Andre Russell became the Player of the Match for his explosive batting and economical bowling.
The second day of the IPL 2024 was quite eventful. On the first day, CSK defeated RCB by 4 wickets.
