The Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) have reached IPL 2024 finals. They defeated Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) by a convincing 8-wicket victory last Tuesday. KKR has reached the IPL finals for the fourth time. They previously played in the finals in 2021. Meanwhile, SRH faced their second consecutive loss in Qualifier-1. They still hold a chance to make a comeback in the finals through a win in Qualifier 2.
SRH opted to bat first after winning the toss. But they were bowled out for 159 runs within 19.3 overs. Travis Head was bowled out by Mitchell Starc on a duck in the very first over. Abhishek Sharma got dismissed by 3 runs by Starc. Rahul Tripathi stood out with a commendable 55-run innings, becoming the sole half-centurion for his team. Heinrich Klaasen and Pat Cummins contributed at the end, scoring 32 and 30 runs respectively. Starc, alongside Varun Chakravarthy, led the bowling attack for KKR. Starc claimed 3 wickets for 34 runs, while Chakravarthy got 2 wickets.
KKR easily chased the target in just 13.4 overs, losing only 2 wickets. They had a solid opening stand of 44 runs. Shreyas Iyer played a captain’s innings. He smashed an unbeaten 58 runs off just 24 balls. Venkatesh Iyer played a brilliant innings of 51 runs off 28 balls. The duo forged a formidable 97-run partnership in just 44 balls. Pat Cummins and T. Natarajan each took a wicket for Sunrisers. Mitchell Starc was awarded the ‘Player of the Match’ award for his exceptional bowling.
