Kolkata Knight Riders beat Sunrisers Hyderabad to win IPL 2024. KKR showcased their dominance in T20 cricket In the Indian Premier League 2024 Finale . They outperformed Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) to lift their third IPL trophy. The final match was played in MA Chidambaram Stadium in Chennai.
SRH won the toss and chose to bat hoping to create a huge total. But soon Mitchell Starc delivered an early blow and dismissed SRH opener Abhishek Sharma. Abhishek was out on a delivery that would be remembered as one of the tournament’s best. Other opener Travis Head was dismissed on a golden duck by Vaibhav Arora. SRH was unable to build significant partnerships and lost wickets on regular intervals. Despite Pat Cummins’ valiant 24 off 19 balls, SRH were all out on just 113 runs in 18.3 overs. Andre Russell picked up 3 wickets, and Starc and Harshit Rana got 2 wickets each.
Chasing a modest 114, KKR’s openers laid a solid foundation. Gurbaz scored a steady 39 runs. Venkatesh Iyer played explosively and scored an unbeaten 52 off 26 balls. His innings having 4 fours and 3 sixes, exemplified the aggressive intent KKR has shown throughout the season.. The target was reached in just 10.3 overs, with KKR losing only 2 wickets.
Mitchell Starc’s 2/14 in 3 overs was the match-turning performance. He got the Player Of the Match award in the Final match. Sunil Narine got the Most Valuable Player (MVP) of the tournament award. He was instrumental throughout the tournament with 488 runs and 17 wickets. Sunil Narine set himself as a legend of T20 cricket. KKR’s Ramandeep Singh got the Catch of the Tournament award.
The IPL 2024 season saw some exceptional performances. Virat Kohli topped the run charts and won the Orange Cap. Harshal Patel got the Purple Cap for being the leading wicket-taker.
